IGSA SCHOLARSHIP HISTORY

IGSA-FIN Scholarship is an academic student scholarship awarding $1000 and In-State Tuition Waiver to a deserving Aggie annually. Apart from being an overall great student, the awardee should have contributed to the Indian Community on campus. Students who have spent a semester with completion of 9 credits are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

How it all started:

Indian Graduate Student Association (IGSA) and Friends of India Network (FIN) came together 4 years ago with... the idea of a scholarship in support of the Indian student community at Texas A&M University. With the help of Texas A&M Foundation and Scholarship and Financial Aid (SFAID) office, the IGSA-FIN team was able to establish a scholarship.

As per university policy on scholarships, it is necessary to raise $25,000 in an endowment account which is handled by the Texas A&M Foundation. The interest generated from this account is $1000 which is given as the scholarship. The IGSA executive committee worked at the concessions stand in Kyle Field during football games for 4 fall semesters. They generated over 3000 man-hours and raised $13,000 in the process.

In addition, there has been other noble contributions to this cause from outside the executive team that made us reach $16,300. We wish to achieve the target of $25,000 as soon as possible. Anyone who wishes to contribute to this noble cause is appreciated and can reach out to anyone from IGSA for the same.

To summarize the role of each of the above mentioned organisations:

  • FIN (Friends of India Network) - comprises of a group of professors who support this cause. IGSA and FIN are raising money together.

  • SFAID (Scholarship and Financial Aid) - Department within Texas A&M that decides the recipient of this scholarship.

  • Texas A&M Foundation - Department within Texas A&M that handles fundraising activities. They are handling the scholarship endowment account.

No matter how small the contribution, it takes us one step closer to the target. Please stand with us for this noble cause and help us realize this dream!!
